### Summary
The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) works collaboratively in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model and performs administrative duties for treatment of veterans at Non VA facilities. The AMSA will have close interactions with Primary Care Physicians, PACT Teams, Specialty Clinic Providers, Chief of Staff in coordination of medical care at Non VA facilities. The AMSA is responsible for all Non VA outpatient specialty clinics electronic consults through Computerized Patient Records System (CPRS); along with processing authorizations through Fee Basis Claims (FBCS) scheduling veterans through Appointment Manager (AM). The AMSA work impacts the administrative aspect of patient care, including: scheduling, coordinating appointments, patient processing and customer service. The AMSA maintains accuracy, reliability and proficiency in authorizing Non VA consults through CPRS and FBCS with proper documentation in an expeditious manner. After consult referral management takes place, the incumbent initiates administrative eligibility, enter corresponding authorization with accurate cost estimations. With the Non VA consult, referral management, appointment management, and administrative documentation takes place.This includes appointment scheduling, tracking, pre and post-appointments contacts.
The AMSA is required to keep in close communication with NVCC Nurses, Chief of Fee, Chief of HAS, and all VA staff members. The AMSA corresponds with veterans and Non VA Care providers in processing coordination of care between the facilities of the Carl Vinson VA medical Center and Non VA Care providers.
The AMSA completes authorizations for care and generates appointment letters and pre-procedure instructions to patients. The AMSA may have to make special arrangements per physician documentation according to traveler's medical condition. May correspond with physician, traveler, social worker or CBOC representative and vendor to determine the most dependable and economical mode of transportation. It is especially important that this care be coordinated timely as it could delay patient care and treatment.
**Work Schedule:** Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, schedule may be altered to meet the needs of the facility, and will be discussed at the time of selection

Advanced knowledge of the technical health care process as it relates to access to care.
Advanced knowledge of managing a clinic. This includes independently utilizing reference sources, decision making, and empowering the team to collaborate and resolve problems within a complex systems environment.
Advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with operational activities that affect the patient flow, patient care, and the revenue process.
Advanced knowledge of medical terminology due to the technical nature of language utilized by clinicians.

### Qualifications
**Basic Requirements**:
* United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
* Experience and Education
* Experience. Six months experience of clerical, office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position **OR**
* Education. One year above high school **OR**
* Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable.
**Grade Determinations**:
* Experience:. One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. At the next lower grade level, the MSA is responsible for scheduling appointments, including interpreting and verifying provider orders in accordance with VHA national scheduling guidelines. Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to: scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling patient's appointments and/or consults; entering no-show information; monitoring the electronic wait list; preparing for clinic visits; monitoring both inpatient and outpatient appointments for areas of responsibility; ensuring encounter forms are completed in order to obtain appropriate workload credit; verifying and updating demographics and insurance information; processing all emergency and non-emergency transfers to other VA facilities or private hospitals; performing basic eligibility, co-pays and preauthorization requirements for specific coverage (i.e., TRICARE, sharing agreements, etc.).

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-06.
**Physical Requirements:**The work is mostly sedentary and is performed in a clinic responsible for treating patients with a wide variety of medical problems. Normal safety precautions and practices are required for working a health care environment. This position requires emotional ability to deal effectively with multi-tasking and high volume of patient flow. Other physical demands include reaching, bending, stretching, walking, and carrying light loads of supplies.
